The Tapestry cartoon was purchased in 1984 in Sydney (Australia) imported by Sydney Antique dealer Charles Hirsch. I believe it came from his last ‘Flemish’ container.
It has been in our possession ever since. The colours have not changed to today.
Size is 2100mm x 2400 mm. The colours you see on the photo are like the original. Eleanor Keene (Sydney), who worked for Bonhams auction in London as a fabric specialist, has confirmed that this is a 18th century original tapestry cartoon.
It is a painting on linen with highlights on the cloth done in petit point needlework, which she considered to be unusual and very interesting, I have been told by Eleanor Keene.
Many famous artists, such as Rembrandt have painted cartoons prior to be made into tapestry by manufactures such as Gobelin and Aubusson.
