Golden opportunity for Master Gilding Course students

Art Gilding were invited to gild a glass sculpture in the Beach Gecko Studio in Joondalup WA. Once erected on site it will ultimately stand over 5 metres tall.

With the help of student Lorrie, we completed the gilding with 24-carat gold leaf on the inside as well as the outside of the bowls in one week. It was a pleasure to be part of this amazing project.

While we had some free time, we went to Perth to revisit the Pan Pacific Hotel to see the finished ceiling of the Golden Ballroom which we did many years ago with our Master Class students Rima and Michael. Brigitte remembered the hotel owner could not believe that we used faux silver (aluminium) leaf instead of faux gold leaf. When gilding had been completed, the ceiling was sprayed with a tinted glaze by the on-site painting company.

We can be very proud of the great result we all achieved.
